MIRJAM STEINBOCK
Cultural worker. Lobbyist. Fair pay activist.

Giving artists and cultural professionals an unmistakable and highly visible voice: Mirjam Steinbock sees herself as a cultural worker, but she is more than that. She connects, unites and creates a space for the Vorarlberg art and culture scene in which fairness and legitimate rights such as fair pay can be demanded. She is the managing director of IG Kultur Vorarlberg and national chairwoman of IG Kultur Österreich. Trained as a goldsmith, she is intensively involved with trees and calligraphy, writes for artistic projects at the interface of dance, text and music and moderates panels and events.

I find it hard to bear when someone is excluded. As soon as I see people and living beings being treated unfairly, I endeavour to raise their awareness, to have conversations on equal terms and to promote equality. I see doing this as a necessity and being able to do it in the context of art and culture as a privilege.

It’s as simple as it is refreshing to get in touch with people. It happens as soon as we set foot on the street, perceive the moment and show genuine interest in the other person.
